Diagnosing Goiter

Goiter can be of the whole thyroid gland or of portions if nodules or tumors are the cause of the swelling.

Because of this, a physician can tell a great deal by examining the neck region and gauging the extent and, in the case of a growth, the source of the swelling.

Other ways to diagnose goiter include:

  • A hormone test
  • An antibody test
  • Ultrasonography
  • A thyroid scan
