Diagnosing Insomnia

According to the Mayo clinic, diagnosing insomnia is not always clear-cut because of the subjective nature of the problem. However, here are some of their suggestions:

  • See the doctor, who may ask you questions about your sleep patterns, health history, and medications.
  • You may be asked to complete a questionnaire to determine your wake-sleep pattern and your level of daytime sleepiness.
  • Possibly spend a night at a sleep disorders center to monitor and record a variety of body activities during the night, including brain waves, breathing, heartbeat, eye movements and body movements.
