A dangerous fungal infection called fusarium is spreading across the country.
The fungus affects the eyes, growing within the cornea. If not treated quickly, it can potentially cause permanent eye damage or blindness.
Doctors at one eye clinic in the U.S. are reporting nearly two dozen cases in just the past three months, with nearly half of the cases in contact wearers. Previously, most eye doctors would treat just one or two cases per year, and almost never in people who wore contacts.
Experts are baffled at the alarming spread of this eye fungus, and are unsure of the reason it is affecting certain patients.
