Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis is Aimed at Symptom Relief and Improving Quality of Life

Because there is no cure yet for cystic fibrosis, treatment is aimed at symptom relief and improving the quality of life.

Cystic fibrosis is often treated at home with:

  • antibiotics
  • special exercises for draining sputum-including physical therapy for the chest
  • physical exercise
  • aerosols
  • diet therapy, which emphasizes the replacement of deficient digestive enzymes

Surgery is sometimes performed to correct physical complications.
