Who is most at risk of acquiring Avian Flu?

A conference sponsored by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Avian Influenza and Wild Birds (funded by the governments of France, The Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland) has concluded that there is a low, but real, risk for people who have close and intense contact with sick poultry.

There is also a low risk, if precautions are taken, for people where the H5N1 virus may be present such as healthcare workers, poultry cullers, farm workers, hunters and ornithologists.

The conclusion was reached that with "... respect to prevention, emphasis should be on identification and education of vulnerable human populations, including hunting communities."

This is a long report that details all aspects of avian (bird) flu.
