Our existence depends on the correct and efficient operation of the heart.

The heart pumps the oxygen-and-nutrient laden blood to the tissues, and removes waste products from the tissues.

If the pumping action of the heart is disrupted, the body’s organs begin to fail very quickly.

Kawasaki Disease occurs most frequently in children of Japanese or Korean descent, although any child can get it, and more often in boys than girls. It can cause serious and life threatening complications of the heart and the blood vessels that supply the heart.

Heart murmurs may be systolic, diastolic, or continuous and they may be present at birth. Not all murmurs indicate heart disease, but sometimes do indicate a child's fever or anemia. (These murmurs go away when the underlying illness is treated.)
