Addison's Disease: Signs & Symptoms

The insidious loss of adrenal cortex cells produces a chronic, and slow loss of energy, appetite, and weight loss. Blood pressure is low, and may lead to fainting when the person stands up quickly. Nausea and diarrhea are common. Emotional changes are common, especially irritability and depression. Due to a loss of salt, craving for salty foods is common. Finally, the change in hormones will cause a gradual tan, which looks inappropriate for a person who feels so sick.

Signs and Symptoms of Addison's Disease

Signs and symptoms of Addison's disease include:

  • Muscle weakness and fatigue
  • Weight loss and decreased appetite
  • Darkening of your skin (hyperpigmentation)
  • Low blood pressure, even fainting
