Patients have no symptoms at birth or the defect may be found at the age of three or four years, or even when a person is much older. Symptoms, if they are present, may include frequent chest colds and infections. If severe enough, a young child’s growth can be stunted. If the lungs become very congested, pulmonary hypertension may result.
