Treatment for Down Syndrome is More an Issue of Life Planning

Down syndrome cannot be treated, but the medical problems attendant to it can be. For that reason, regular medical check-ups are essential.

However, since most people with Down syndrome are living into their fifties, sixties and beyond, any discussion of "treatment" has to be in the context of quality of life issues, namely future physical, social, financial and legal issues.

These issues should be addressed as early as possible.
