Treatment of dry eye syndrome is aimed at keeping the eyes moist.
One concern is managing any eyelid condition. There are specialists to whom you may be referred if that is the case.
Adding tears and conserving tears are two strategies doctors use to treat this problem.
There is also one drug approved by the US FDA for treating chronic dry eye syndrome, and that is cyclosporine (Restasis).
Finally, many people believe that omega-3 fatty acid supplementation may lower the risk of dry eyes (it seems to help many conditions), but this hasn't been "clinically" proven, yet.
