What Is Myeloma?

Myeloma is also referred to as "Multiple Myeloma" because multiple patches or areas of bone marrow are typically affected.

According to the Information and Treatment page of the International Myeloma Foundation's website, Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells, which are antibody-producing cells normally present in the bone marrow (<5% of cells).

When a plasma cell turns cancerous, it is called a myeloma cell. These cancerous plasma cells increase in number (>20% of marrow cells) and activity and eventually require treatment.
