According to the Mayo Clinic, most people who develop multiple myeloma have no clearly identifiable risk factors for the disease. However, there are some factors that may increase the risk of developing this non-contagious disease, including:
- Age
- Sex
- Race *
- History of a monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance
- Obesity
