GallBladder and Bile Duct Cancers are Seldom Symptomatic in the Early Stages

According to the Mayo Clinic, gallbladder and bile duct cancer rarely produce signs and symptoms in the early stages. When symptoms do appear, they often resemble those of other, more common, gallbladder problems such as gallstones or infection.

The majority of bile duct cancers originate in the mucous glands lining the inside of the ducts. By the time these cancers are diagnosed, they often have spread to other tissues and organs.

The symptoms of gallbladder cancer include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Yellowing of your skin and the whites of your eyes (jaundice)
  • Unintended weight loss or loss of appetite

The symptoms of bile duct cancer include:

  • Enlarged gallbladder
  • Intense itching (pruritis)
