Preventing a stroke is related to taking care of our bodies and having a healthy lifestyle. The most important factors are:
- Controlling high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Lowering cholesterol and saturated fat intake
- Stopping smoking
- Controlling diabetes
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Exercising regularly
- Managing stress
- Drinking alcohol in moderation, if at all (no matter what anybody says about alcohol being "good for you")
- Don't use illicit drugs - many are established high risk factors for stroke
- Following a healthy diet
