Prevention Strategies for Hydrocephalus are Mostly Common Sense

According to the Mayo Clinic, there are three basic preventative strategies to prevent Hydrocephalus:

  • Protecting the head of the infant or child from injury by handling him or her carefully
  • Prompt treatment of infections such as meningitis and other disorders associated with hydrocephalus
  • Since premature birth is a risk factor for Hydrocephalus, any steps a pregnant woman can take to prevent that will reduce the risk
