Diagnosing Lyme Disease

According to the Lyme Disease Foundation, there are no clear cut tests that can show infection and then also show when a patient is bacterium-free.

Diagnosis is therefore only the basis of signs and symptoms, without the benefit of direct laboratory testing.

However, there are a number of indirect tests that can help with the diagnosis, and a patient's travel history (whether or not they have been in a known tick-infested area) is also important.
