Avoiding asthma and allergy triggers and treating reactions

The Lung Association gives this proven advice: The best way to treat allergies is to prevent them - stay away from the things that you are allergic to. No treatment will work as well as simply avoiding the allergen in the first place.

There are some allergens that just can't be avoided, and when this happens, a treatment is needed. Allergy shots, Nasal cortico-steroids, Antihistamines and Decongestants may be prescribed by an allergist according to the type of allergy. Some are over the counter medications and others require a prescription.
