Recovery after Surgery

Coping after surgery can present multiple problems. Replacement therapy causes its own problems. How are you managing? Please share your thoughts.

I am currently two weeks post transphenoidal resectionof pituitary gland. Alone and three hours away from my treatint neurosurgeon in the midwest. I am searching for information as to what to expect during my recovery over the next few weeks. I do not see the neurosurgeon or endo for another six weeks. Any feedback will be gratefully welcomed. Thanks Pam

Dear Pam,

Have you heard from anyone yet about your question? By now, you probably have seen your surgeon or endocrinologist.

Was your surgery for a removal of a tumor? As you probably are already aware, when these tumors are caught early, the prognosis is excellent.

There may be permanent loss of some or all pituitary hormones, an imbalance that can be treated with Hormone Replacement Therapy. HRT can replace thyroid, growth, testosterone, or adrenal hormones when those made by the pituitary to stimulate the endocrine glands are no longer produced. It can be lifesaving therapy for the many millions of patients who need to replace hormones they no longer make.

The following source is a excellent site for information and support groups.

Please let us know the outcome, and good luck.
